As part of the ongoing efforts led by the Welfare Association through its Old Cities Revitalization Program, the third module of the specialized training course titled “Emergency Interventions for Heritage Recovery and Site Management for Engineers and Site Managers in Gaza” has been successfully completed. The module was delivered by Dr. Amra Hadžimuhamedović, alongside the completion of the fourth module delivered by Dr. Luigi, with the participation of 26 engineers and site managers from across the Gaza Strip.
The third module focused on recovery planning and reconstruction in conflict-affected environments. Dr. Amra addressed key topics, including context analysis, setting recovery priorities, and principles of reconstruction grounded in heritage preservation. The module also emphasized knowledge transfer and capacity building through a practical case study from Gaza.
The fourth module highlighted the importance of digital documentation of heritage buildings. Dr. Luigi delivered a series of specialized lectures on digital surveying techniques, photogrammetry, and laser scanning, as well as the application of these tools in damage documentation and in establishing accurate scientific foundations for reconstruction.
Both modules were marked by a high level of engagement and discussion between participants and experts, despite challenges related to connectivity conditions in the Gaza Strip. Simultaneous translation services were provided to ensure effective communication and knowledge exchange between international experts and trainees.
These modules are part of a broader series of training interventions aimed at strengthening the capacities of local professionals in Gaza, enabling them to effectively manage damaged heritage sites. This contributes to recovery and reconstruction efforts while safeguarding the city’s cultural and historical identity.
