Launch of the “Restoration and Rehabilitation of the Historic Jenin Municipality Library Building” Project - Phase I

Jenin - In early February, the Old Cities Revitalization Program at Taawon (Welfare Association) launched the first phase of the restoration project of the Jenin Municipal Library building. The project aims to rehabilitate and preserve the building as a prominent historical and architectural landmark, while respecting its authentic architectural and heritage values to ensure its continuity and sustainability for future generations.

The first phase, implemented with generous funding from the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, includes maintenance of the library’s tiled roof while preserving its original structure, as well as external structural reinforcement for several corners of the building, in addition to repointing and waterproofing works. The phase also includes the rehabilitation of the facades and entrances of eight commercial shops adjacent to the library in the area known as Al-Sibat, contributing to the improvement of the urban landscape and the preservation of the area’s historic character.

The Jenin Municipal Library is considered one of the city’s most prominent historic buildings. It dates back to the early twentieth century and has served various functions over time, including as an inn and as the headquarters of the Jenin Municipality, before the library was relocated to the building in 1991. The library is located on the upper floor near the main entrance of the Old City of Jenin (Al-Sibat), within a lively area in the city center, and covers an approximate area of 400 square meters.
