Launch of the Fifth Module within the Heritage Recovery Training Program in Gaza

As part of Taawon’s efforts, through the Old Cities Revitalization Program, to support the cultural heritage sector in Gaza, the training program titled “Emergency Interventions for Heritage Recovery and Site Management” continues, with the implementation of its fifth module under the supervision of Dr. Trevor Marchand, and with active participation from engineers and site managers from within the Gaza Strip.

This module focused on the human-centered approach to heritage recovery, highlighting the importance of involving local communities in recovery and reconstruction processes, and strengthening the role of individuals and local institutions in protecting cultural heritage. The sessions included interactive discussions and practical exercises, including group work, aimed at developing a deeper understanding of the relationship between heritage and community in post-crisis contexts.

The module also presented international approaches to dealing with heritage in conflict-affected areas, with a focus on the importance of engaging local communities in the stages of assessment, planning, and implementation, in a way that supports sustainable recovery and reflects the needs of the population while strengthening their resilience.

The sessions witnessed strong engagement from participants, who delivered valuable presentations and contributions that reflected a high level of understanding and interest, particularly during group discussions addressing the situation in Gaza and the challenges related to heritage recovery under current conditions.

This module is part of a series of training units aimed at building the capacity of local professionals and linking theoretical knowledge with practical application, contributing to the preparation of a new generation of engineers capable of leading recovery and reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip.
